After missing out on promotion from the National League in their first season, Wrexham went up into the lucrative Football League in 2023 and they are currently on track to secure promotion to League One with the club third in the fourth tier.

Thanks to the Disney Plus series Welcome to Wrexham and lucrative sponsorship deals with Tik Tok, United Airlines and Aviation American Gin, the club are now in a much better financial state.

Speaking at the SportNXT conference in Australia, Wrexham's director Shaun Harvey said: "It is worth nothing [that] it is an investment that has paid off. [The club is] now worth £9m.

"The main reason for ownership was the town's history and to provide hope to the town whilst offering something the community could get behind.

"The social media growth has been astronomical from 2020 to 2024, seeing an increase from 152,000 [followers] to 3,981,747 across all platforms.

"Ultimately, it was exposure, the spotlight that had been shone and all of a sudden, everybody wanted to see what was going on.

"We successfully managed the football club in the town for the local community and built everything else around it. It remained relatable."

Wrexham's owners continue to invest heavily, but much like their time in the National League, their American and Canadian chairman are finding out how tough football can be.
