Derby's push for automatic promotion to the Championship took a hit after they drew away at mid-table Wycombe.

The Rams, who have three matches remaining, stay in second but sit just two points ahead of Bolton, who have a game in hand.

The visitors nearly took the lead in the opening two minutes when a Ryan Tafazolli header almost crept past his own goalkeeper, Franco Ravizzoli.

This started an onslaught of Derby attacks as Corey Blackett-Taylor missed an open goal from a Conor Washington cross inside six minutes.

The latter then had his attempt blocked by Jack Grimmer 10 minutes later before Nathaniel Mendez-Laing's resulting corner nearly snuck in, but Ravizzoli tipped the set-piece over.

Wycombe had several chances but nothing that tested Joe Wildsmith in the Rams goal as Beryly Lubala and Kieran Sadlier fired their attempts wide of the mark.

The second half was on a knife-edge, as Joe Low and Gideon Kodua had Wycombe's best attempts, with Conor Hourihane and James Collins going close for Derby in the final few moments but to no avail.

Absolutely! To pick themselves up after losing on Sunday in a cup final, and then battling away tonight to keep Derby out in a match that was virtually meaningless to them in terms of their League One fortunes, is a huge credit to the club.

Maybe Derby County thought they just had to turn up tonight and the 3 points were in the bag for them?

As a pompey fan, I'm just slightly miffed that just one week ago derby were charging around like demented rabbits against us. One week later and you barely get a shot on target against a team that had just lost a cup final and have nothing to play for!

After Bolton restricted away ticket sales because they're running scared of us, I hope Derby squeeze through.

Still a little way to go but Pompey & Derby still favourites as we both have the points in the bag.
Pompey could still be home and dry with a point at TS stadium - if other results were favourable.
Whatever the outcome - the best 2 get automatic and the 3rd spot….. anybody’s guess !

Thank you Wycombe, from a Pompey fan. Bolton Vs Pompey next. Not an easy one for either team, but if Pompey prevail, we will be Champions by 5pm. That's a big IF of course. Won't be surprised if Bolton nab a narrow victory.

Derby were woeful.
No shots on target, negative tactics.
Washington should never be in the team and Blackett-Taylor was MIA for most of the match.
No automatic promotion now, playoffs here we come 🤨

Easier to put the hard yards in when Skye cameras turn up, not so easy on a similar night mid week at Wycombe. To be fair Bolton have been guilty of the same at times. Difficult game for Bolton against Pompey who are a better team this year and deserve to be top. Orient a dangerous team for Derby so lots of twists and turns for second. May the best team succeed and thanks Wfc for making this cagey

Oh dear lord. Zero shots on target in a must win game. They should make t-shirts of that stat and make the midfield and forwards wear them at training tomorrow. In Corey Blackett-Taylor we have uncovered the next Florian Jozefzoon. Keeps the hunt for second place very interesting
