Out of favour Birmingham City ‘keeper extends emergency loan deal with Coventry City

Coventry City have extended the emergency loan of goalkeeper David Stockdale from Championship side Birmingham City, the club has confirmed.

Coventry City announced on their club website that they have extended the emergency loan deal of Birmingham City’s David Stockdale for another seven days, until February 22nd.

Coventry remain without a fit ‘keeper, with duo Lee Burge and Liam O’Brien still both unavailable through injury. Stockdale stepped in between the sticks for Coventry’s win over Rochdale, keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 win for the Sky Blues. He will be in the squad for Saturday’s game at home to Walsall, where they will be hoping to build on last week’s win.

The ‘keeper possesses plenty of football league experience and is a strong shot-stopper at League One level.

After winning promotion to the Premier League with Brighton in the 2016/17 season, Stockdale opted to stay in the Championship and joined Birmingham City in the summer of 2017.

However, since arriving at St Andrew’s, the 33-year-old hasn’t made the same impact as he did at the AMEX Stadium with Brighton. He made 36 appearances last season but has dropped out the first team in the new campaign. He has already been sent out on two emergency loan spells this season. He first joined Southend United for a short spell, before joining Wycombe Wanderers as well.

Stockdale is yet to feature for Birmingham this season, with Lee Camp in between the sticks as Garry Monk’s number one goalkeeper choice. He has not made the matchday squad once this season, with youngster Connal Trueman starting the first two league games and providing cover off the bench for Camp.
