Rangers keeping tabs on Millwall defender

Rangers are tracking Millwall defender Mahlon Romeo.

The 23-year-old is out of contract with the Lions at the end of the season and is yet to sign a new deal. Steven Gerrard’s side are monitoring the situation ahead of a potential summer move, as per a report by the Daily Record.

The Glasgow side are currently 2nd in the Scottish Premiership and eight points behind bitter rivals Celtic at the top. Therefore, they are planning a big summer of recruitment to help mount a title charge in the next campaign.

Romeo would be a useful acquisition for them as he is young and is a player for the future, hence why Millwall are keen to tie him down on a longer deal to avoid losing him on a free transfer.

The London-born defender joined Millwall in the summer of 2015 and has since played over 100 games for Neil Harris’ side. He has firmly established himself in their first-team and helped them gain promotion to the Championship in 2016.

Romeo had spells at Arsenal and Wycombe Wanderers as a youngster but moved onto Gillingham in 2012. He made one appearance for the Gills’ senior side but enjoyed some first-team football on loan at non-league side Dover Athletic in 2013.

Rangers would be an interesting proposition for Romeo. His future at The Den could depend on whether Harris is able to steer them away from relegation danger between now and the end of the season.
