Judge in Ireland Squad
Tuesday, 1st Oct 2019 11:43

Town midfielder Alan Judge has been named in a 24-man Republic of Ireland squad for their Euro 2020 qualifiers against Georgia and Switzerland later this month.

Mick McCarthy’s side face the Georgians away on Saturday 12th October and the Swiss, also away, three days later.

Judge, 30, has previously won eight full caps and has scored one international goal.

Also in the squad is ex-Blue Conor Hourihane but David McGoldrick is currently sidelined with a groin problem.

Town are able to postpone their home game with Wycombe scheduled for Saturday 12th October if three qualifying players are called up - Anthony Georgiou has already been named in the Cyprus squad for their October fixtures and Armando Dobra in the Albania U19s party taking on Poland in a friendly on Monday 14th October - and we understand that now those three calls have been confirmed the match will be rescheduled.

Republic of Ireland: Darren Randolph (Middlesbrough), Mark Travers (AFC Bournemouth), Kieran O’Hara (Burton Albion, on loan from Manchester United), Seamus Coleman (Everton), Matt Doherty (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Kevin Long (Burnley), John Egan (Sheffield United), Darragh Lenihan (Blackburn Rovers), Greg Cunningham (Blackburn Rovers), Enda Stevens (Sheffield United), Alan Browne (Preston North End), Josh Cullen (Charlton Athletic, on loan from West Ham United), Glenn Whelan (Heart of Midlothian), Conor Hourihane (Aston Villa), James McClean (Stoke City), Ronan Curtis (Portsmouth), Jeff Hendrick (Burnley), Callum O’Dowda (Bristol City), Jack Byrne (Shamrock Rovers), James Collins (Luton Town), Sean Maguire (Preston North End), Callum Robinson (Sheffield United), Alan Judge (Ipswich Town), Scott Hogan (Stoke City, on loan from Aston Villa).

I have tickets for both of the England matches that weekend so, from a selfish point of view I would be happy for the Wycombe game to be called off

However, I am a believer in momentum and I am sure we have a strong enough squad to play the game

I do think that the club are worried more about potentially losing Flynn Downes than the others though

All those saying that Judge would not be missed? What game have we lost this season with Judge in the team? How do you know that other members are performing with more confidence knowing that he is playing along side them?
Its not always apparent what you are missing until they are not playing so why tempt fate.
