Wycombe Game Rescheduled
Wednesday, 2nd Oct 2019 14:14

Town’s home game against Wycombe Wanderers has been rescheduled for Tuesday 26th November (KO 7.45pm).

The match, the Chairboys’ first ever visit to Portman Road, was originally set to be played on Saturday 12th October but was postponed due to international calls.

As a result, Town now don't have a scheduled Saturday home game until Saturday 23rd November when Blackpool are in Suffolk.

Unless the Blues draw a home tie in the first round of the FA Cup and that game is played on Saturday 9th November, Town will go eight weeks between Saturday fixtures at Portman Road following last weekend's 4-1 defeat of Tranmere.

Last month the trip to Rochdale was postponed due to international calls, while the game at Oxford United on Saturday 16th November is also likely to be moved for the same reason.

Alan Judge (Republic of Ireland), Anthony Georgiou (Cyprus), Armando Dobra (Albania U19s) and Adam Przybek (Wales U21s) have already been confirmed in international squads while it's expected Andre Dozzell (England U20s) and Idris El Mizouni (either Tunisia full or U23s squad) will also be called up, while Flynn Downes (England U20s) could also be named.

A game under the lights of Portman Road creates a great atmosphere and like TractorCam I will be able to make that. Down to us fans as 12th men to create that feeling of support.....

This is really irritating, as a season ticket holder who has to travel from Cambridge -
Saturday games are much easier to get to, without being exhausted at work.

And now there is almost 2 months where I can't go to Portman road, and then 2 games in a bloody week.
We only had 2 first team players (not starters imo) actually called up.

imo a very bad decision that doesn't take account of the fans.
nor the fact that we'll likely have 2 matches a week for most of the second half of the season if we keep postponing ours
- hopefully this doesn't come back to bite

add to that, the fact that all our away games sell out within minutes (I tried for Southend but my internet is too poor)

If any other entertainment or sporting venue changed the date of a performance the customer would be offered a refund if the new date was not acceptable. Whilst PL has been the best thing to happen to our club for years, I really don't think inconvenience to those who pre paid with a ST has ever been taken into account by the club. Some goodwill is necessary if this rescheduling is to continue to upset those with commitments. If the football reasons were obvious I would not be having a moan.

Personally, I think this calling off of games is utter madness. Time will tell I guess. But we rarely play well immediately after an international break...,,, watch this space !

At least this won't happen in March. The international weekend is when we were due to play Bury away so we don't have a fixture!

Perhaps the thinking is that, with a much bigger squad than Wycombe, two games near each other are much harder for them. Also, Wycombe are doing well currently, but are not predicted to keep up this same pace so that may be a better time to meet them. (Of course the same might turn out to be true of Town!)
