Rolando Aarons struck the only goal of the game just before the hour, with Shrewsbury finishing with 10 men following Ro-Shaun Williams' late red.

Ipswich were not in action as a result of Bury's expulsion, with Wycombe taking full advantage to move three points clear, although having now played two matches more.

Promotion rivals Peterborough, however, missed the chance to make up ground as they were beaten 4-3 at Blackpool, where Armand Gnanduillet scored twice

Mo Eisa had put Posh - unbeaten since September - in front after 13 minutes, but an own goal from defender Niall Mason soon levelled things up. Gnanduillet gave the home side the lead in the 41st minute, only for Ivan Toney's header to make it 2-2 on the stroke of half-time.

Gnanduillet was on the scoresheet again three minutes after the restart when he converted a penalty but it was 3-3 in the 71st minute when Marcus Maddison slotted home a spot-kick of his own.

Blackpool, though, got a fourth - and decisive - goal just a few minutes later when Posh defender Dan Butler put the ball in his own net.

Bottom club Bolton secured a first home win of the season when they beat high-flying Fleetwood 2-1. Bolton went ahead through Chris O'Grady after 28 minutes, with strike partner Daryl Murphy soon doubling the lead.

Fleetwood substitute Josh Morris set up a tense finale when he pulled a goal back with five minutes left, but Keith Hill's men held out to take their tally to minus two points.

Highlights of the Sky Bet League One game between Gillingham and Rotherham.

Rushian Hepburn-Murphy bagged a hat-trick as Tranmere won 3-1 at 10-man MK Dons. which saw MK boss Paul Tisdale sacked.

Hepburn-Murphy put Rovers ahead after 19 minutes and while Ben Reeves equalised three minutes before half-time, the home side were soon dealt a major setback.

Striker Kieran Agard was shown a straight red card for a foul on Tranmere midfielder Neil Danns. Hepburn-Murphy added another early in the second half before completing his hat-trick in the 69th minutes.

A stoppage-time goal from substitute Kwesi Appiah secured new AFC Wimbledon boss Glyn Hodges a point from his first match in charge with a 1-1 draw against Lincoln. Jack Payne had gave the Imps the lead after 31 minutes.

New Southend manager Sol Campbell saw his side lose 1-0 at Sunderland, Luke O'Nien heading in the only goal after 20 minutes.

Coventry, meanwhile, held out with 10 men to battle to a goalless draw at home to Accrington. The Sky Blues saw striker Maxime Biamou sent off in the 68th minute after lashing out at Mark Hughes.

Doncaster twice fought back from deficits to draw 2-2 with Burton at The Keepmoat Stadium.

David Templeton had given Burton the lead after 36 minutes, but that was swiftly cancelled out by Jon Taylor. A penalty from Lucas Akins made it 2-1 to the visitors after 53 minutes, but the lead was again short-lived as Kieran Sadlier equalised.

Rotherham ran out 3-0 winners at Gillingham. Michael Smith put the visitors ahead soon after seeing his 18-minute penalty saved before Matt Crooks struck twice to seal the points.

Matt Taylor's late header earned Oxford a point with a 1-1 draw at Portsmouth, who had taken a 58th-minute lead through Gareth Evans' penalty.

Bristol Rovers won 2-1 at Rochdale. Victor Adeboyejo put the visitors in front from a corner after eight minutes, with an own goal from Dale defender Eoghan O'Connell soon doubling the lead before Callum Camps pulled a goal back just before half-time.
