Ex-Norwich City, Peterborough United and Wycombe Wanderers defender appointed MK Dons boss

MK Dons have confirmed on their official club website that Russell Martin has been appointed as their new first-team manager, taking the role after confirming that Paul Tisdale had been sacked last night.

MK Dons have wasted no time in bringing in a new manager after confirming that Paul Tisdale had been relieved of his services as manager last night in the wake of their 3-1 loss at home to Tranmere Rovers on Saturday afternoon.

The club have moved to appoint centre-back Russell Martin as manager, giving him the first managerial role of his career. The former Norwich City, Wycombe Wanderers and Peterborough United centre-back spoke upon the confirmation of his new role at the club, saying he is happy to have been given his first managerial role and he is determined to help turn around the club’s poor start to the season. He said:

“I’m excited and proud to have been given this opportunity to become manager of MK Dons. Football management is something that I’ve been preparing for, for a long time and this is an opportunity I’m ready to take on.

“I would like to thank Paul Tisdale for bringing me to the Football Club and for his hard work during my time here. We will always remember celebrating that special moment at the end of last season.

“I must also thank Pete Winkelman and the board for placing their trust in me. I accept their challenge to improve on the recent results and the current league position, and I will give everything I’ve got to repay their faith.

“We’ve got work to do and we will need everyone working as one in order to achieve what we want to achieve – players, staff and fans included. We will turn this around together.”
