Preston North End striker enjoying challenging at top of the table

Preston North End striker Jayden Stockley is enjoying challenging at the top of the Sky Bet Championship table, and has said that although the Lilywhites were only top for a day, he feels like it was a statement of intent to the rest of division.

North End’s 1-0 victory over Charlton Athletic at The Valley on Sunday moved them top of the table temporarily, although they were knocked off less than 48 hours later when West Bromwich Albion returned to the summit with a 2-0 victory over struggling Stoke City.

But talking to the Lancashire Evening Post, Stockley felt that being top for even just a short period of time was what the club needed to do.

“It was psychological more than anything, more of a statement that we can get there. Had we lost at Charlton and gone down a few places we might not have got the chance again any time soon.”

“It put us up there and it showed everyone we can do it and we do mean business.”

The Lancashire club are enjoying a fantastic start to their Sky Bet Championship campaign, and very few people would have expected them to currently be sitting in second place in the league table.

There is a real sense of belief around Deepdale this season, and Stockley already cannot wait for Saturday’s home game with Huddersfield Town.

“We can rest up, get back on the training ground and get ready for Huddersfield.”

“It’s quite a local game and they have found some good form recently. If we can get a win going into the international break, that would be great.”
