Joe Jacobson made his 400th and final appearance for Wycombe as they defeated Charlton at Adams Park.

There was a party-like atmosphere in South Buckinghamshire with both sides not in danger of relegation nor in the hunt for promotion as the League One season came to a close.

"What JJ has done for this club over the last 10 years has been nothing short of exceptional," said boss Matt Bloomfield.

"He has contributed to a lot of our recent success - it was just a shame he couldn't score from a corner."

Wanderers started the game at an electrifying pace and took a seventh-minute lead when Luke Leahy converted a penalty.

Richard Kone, who has become a fan favourite since his move from non-league Athletic Newham in January, was tripped by Terell Thomas and referee Elliot Bell had no option but to point to the spot.

Up stepped Leahy, who scored with ease to claim his 11th league goal of the campaign.

Wanderers should have doubled their lead but goalkeeper Harry Isted did well to deny Chris Forino, Jack Grimmer and Dale Taylor while Charlton hit the bar through a Lewis Fiorini free-kick.

Bloomfield added: ""I'm very pleased with the performance from the players even though there wasn't much to play for.

"We wanted to evolve this season and change but we knew it was going to be hard. It has been clunky at times but it was good to see how we've finished the campaign."

Charlton boss Nathan Jones said that apart from hitting the bar, his side had not had enough of an end product.

He continued: "I wouldn't say I'm glad the season is over, as we're in a privileged position to be a football manager or player, but the last few weeks were all about getting safe and looking at how we can move forward. We need to improve for next season."

    Joe Jacobson, what a Wycombe legend. Great end to what has ended up being a surprisingly decent season for Wycombe. Maybe they can push for playoffs next year if they don't have a long stretch of failing to win a game. Onwards and upwards :))

      Yes a steady pull away from the drop. I hope we can strengthen both defence and attack in the summer and avoid the miserable months of this year's mid-season happening again in 24-25. Much will depend on whether MB has learnt and improves his performance as well.

    Well..... CAFC settled for 16th, bottom half of the table.
    But at least we didn't get relegated, a close run thing for a couple of weeks.
    We were top of the League for Draws, let's convert those into Wins next season.
    Come on Charlton !

      Tough luck against a red-hot WW. Some stats are encouraging though. Outside the top 8 teams only Reading scored more goals. And in the bottom half the GD is the best, usually by a huge number. Two stats to provide the basis for confidence in the next campaign. Good luck.

    Very odd day yesterday.
    Going to miss JJ after 10 years of exceptional service. He’ll be back.
    The Charlton fans seem to hate Jones, even though he’s probably saved them from a relegation scrap. Having gone 14 games unbeaten they really got on the back of the team and manager for a turgid performance yesterday. We were just too good for them.

    Shame ourn didn't get somethin ahrt of this game but theirn are doin really well n like Nate said ourn could only it the bar. Nate as is work cut ahrt next season but e's the best gaffer for the job savin ourn from the rellies so we've juss gotta get on with it n thass all there is to it. Dobbo please stay dahn our gaff n don't go.

    It'll be interesting so see how many of the Charlton team that started the Wycombe game start the first league game of 24/25. My forecast: two. Wholesale changes ahead.

    Thank goodness that awfully depressing season is over. Charlton avoided the drop due to the goals and coaching skills of Alfie May & Nathan Jones respectively. Let's hope for a much better effort, next season.

    To finish nine points above the relegation zone shows how bad the season was . Are the owners going to allow Nathan Jones to completely rebuild the squad for next season as it clearly needs rebuilding to be competitive in the division ?

    The season was totally unacceptable from Charlton who are almost a totally rubbish football club. They need a total clear out. A total change of management. A complete change in the way they do things. A total change of fans would help, the weirdest and most destructive fans anywhere. I remember watching open mouthed Man City fans clapping their players when relegated to league 1. We are as bad!
